IAM Social

Commercial Web Development

Certificate II - Certificate in Intermediate Commercial Web Development

The second term of studies at IAM, and the Second Certificate level, is the crux of the IAM program as a whole. In most areas, learning continues on the curve started in Term 1 across all of the major emphases of design, coding, programming, animation, project management, and theory. The differences between Terms 1 and 2 involve the focus of instruction. Term 1 is largely a term of how best to use the software tools and how they interact with one another to achieve design objectives. Term 2 focuses on the application of design and development concepts-the software, the tools, are set into the background. It is expected that students understand how those tools are used to achieve particular goals. The additional focus introduced in Term 2 involves the applied approach to programming and scripting-a challenge that can best be compared to learning a second language to an intermediate level in 3 months. By the end of Term 2, students are required to apply their programming skills towards the development of custom programmed Content Management Systems (CMS) for their client projects. Similar to Term 1, pairs of students are matched with small business clients as the focus for their Term Projects.
